Hope is the First Step

If you are reading this, then you must know what happened here. We have been fighting for what seems like eons. A small group of rebels in the outer territories turned out to be the warp spawn of demons. They had us trapped here. In this city. Surrounded on all sides.

Guardsmen were fighting as best they could but we all knew; we knew we would never get off this planet. Our prayers would go unanswered and our hope was slowly ground to ash each morning as the crimson sun rose over the horizon, giving light to a new day….and more enemies. They hurled themselves at our walls like madmen each time being repelled by our Guardsmen. Only for so long.

Eventually they knew we would tire and they would strike in the deep of our dark moonless nights. We held on to our hope and faith that one day we would be saved but then, food stores began to run out, disease, and unrest began to spread like wildfire. It wouldn’t matter if the demons got in, we were going to be our own undoing. Just when the light of our world seemed to go out a beacon shone through the night sky. Four bright lights looking like the astral comets seen in days before the demons came streaked through the atmosphere. Our prayers had been answered! Hope was restored. Men, women, and children cried in the streets at the sight of our saviors’ arrival. The Emperor’s Angels had come to rescue us!

As we watched the comets streak lower over the city our joy turned to poison in our mouths. Flayed skin, vile images, and words unpronounceable by human tongues were illustrated on those infernal machines. The pods smashed into the East wall, and then…..the slaughter began. Demons poured through the gaps in over whelming numbers. Any who were not killed outright fled in terror or succumbed to the madness before them. I managed to escape to our highest tower and secure the door. I’ve been up here for days while the demons attempt to break in, clinging to my las-pistol. I dare not look outside for the horrors I may see. The screams…dear Emperor THE SCREAMS. All day and all night those suffering cry out. It has gotten slower though less screaming and more…laughter. No! The door begins to bend and break, I can hear their cackling voices, their thirst, the hellish light seeping, through the clawed holes in the doorway……It’s beautiful
